Ownership & Funding
This page exists so that nobody has to guess who pays for The Little Binger. If you read one line of it, read this one: the site is owned by the people who edit it, and advertising is what funds it.
The rest is detail, written plainly, and updated when the facts change rather than when someone asks.
Who owns the site
The Little Binger is published by a small private company owned by its founding editorial team. The shares are held by working editors. There is no holding company above it, no media group, no investor with a board seat, and nobody outside that group with a claim on what we publish.
The company is registered in the ordinary way at the publisher’s place of business and is the publisher of record for everything on this domain. It has no subsidiaries and it does not run other sites under other names, so what you can see here is the entire operation.
What we are not funded by
No government, agency or state broadcaster funds this site, directly or through an intermediary. We take no money from a political party, a campaign, a candidate, a political action committee, or an organisation whose main business is advocacy on a subject we cover.
No advertiser, sponsor or commercial partner holds equity, debt or an option over the company, and none has a contract giving it any say in editorial matters. If that ever changed, this page is where we would say so first.
Where the money comes from
Advertising is the primary revenue and, in most months, very close to all of it. That means display placements sold directly and filled programmatically, plus newsletter sponsorship sold one sponsor at a time. Labelled sponsored articles are a small part of the same line, under the conditions published on our advertise page.
Occasional secondary income comes from licensing our own reporting to other publishers. We run no affiliate links today and we do not build product round-ups that pay per click. If we ever add affiliate income, the disclosure will sit on the article itself and in our disclaimer, not in a footer nobody reads. There is no membership, no donate button and no reader-funded tier at present.
How ad money is kept out of the story list
Commercial staff report to the publisher rather than to the editors. Editorial staff carry no sales targets and no bonus tied to revenue. Advertisers are not named in the meeting where the day’s coverage is decided, and no advertiser sees an article before publication or gets a warning that one is coming.
We cover advertisers when they are the story, on the same terms as anybody else, and the article says that the company advertises with us. An advertiser asking for a piece to be softened or removed is refused. Where such a request arrives with a threat to pull spend, we treat that threat as a fact about the advertiser that readers may be entitled to know.
Grants, donations and anything we might add later
We take no grants and no donations today. If that changes, the terms are already set: we name every funder, state what the money paid for and over what period, and publish it on this page rather than supplying it on request. Any single sum large enough to matter against a year’s revenue gets its own line here instead of being folded into a total.
No funder, current or future, gets to read copy before publication, choose subjects, or approve a hire. Money arriving with any of those attached is refused. It is easier to write that rule down now than to discover our position halfway through a negotiation.
Conflicts of interest
The owners’ outside interests are limited, and where one exists in a field we cover, the rule is disclosure plus distance. The person holding the interest does not commission, write or edit on that subject, and any article touching it carries a line explaining what the connection is.
The same applies to everyone on staff. Editors and writers declare shareholdings, paid speaking, consulting and family employment in the areas they cover, and the managing editor keeps that register. Gifts, travel paid for by a subject and the rest of the daily version of this problem are handled under our editorial standards.
Keeping this page honest
If ownership changes, if a new revenue stream starts, or if we accept a grant, this page gets updated promptly and the change is noted rather than quietly overwritten. It is a slow-moving page by design. A stale one would be worse than having no page at all.
Anything here that reads as vague, or that you think is wrong, is worth an email to support@thelittlebinger.com. The wider account of who we are and how we work sits on the about page.
