The Electrifying Surprise
Okay, first things first. The Spider-Man in question is no longer the Peter Parker that we used to love. Instead, the movie is introducing us to another beloved character that donned the suit. Bingers, meet Miles Morales. He was first introduced in Ultimate Spider-Man. And yes, that is of different universe from the main Earth-616. Still, people grew to love Miles for his different take on the superhero. With new costume, comes new backstory. His is just as rich as Peter Parker’s and that must be why he starred in his own (kind of) movie. The story by Phil Lord is a mash-up of the various iterations of the characters throughout the years. In Spider-Verse, we did not only see two but six Spider-Men!
Miles Morales, Parker, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man Noir, Pei Parker, and Spider-Ham- yes how can a comic book movie accommodate all these rich characters and most of all, deliver a narrative so tight that you can’t help but enjoy every minute of it? Well, one of the simplest solution is to add some electrifying element to it! The visuals of the Into the Spider-Verse is so rich that it took me for a visual feast! I can’t help but whisper as I marvel in its PS4-like graphics. It was as if the frames were taken out of the comic books and enhanced with some stunning graphics for the PS4! The gamer in me did love every bit of it. Also, it is worth noting that each version of Spider-Man had a specific visual vibe that made the movie even more appealing to the eyes.
The Laughs and the Thrills
One of the many reasons why people love Spider-Man is because of his humor. He is a loser, just like many of us and that is a good thing. While there is an overall lightness to his character and his world, there is also a highly-contrasting dark side to it. He has a wide roster of nemesis and most of them are terrible. In Into the Spider-Verse, we almost had a Sinister Six headed by no other than Kingpin or Wilson Fisk. He caused the universality that disrupted the worlds and brought different versions of Spider-Men into Miles’.
Fisk contracted several brains to create a machine that showed his vulnerable side. The movie did not shy away from exploring the depths of each character which made my apathetic heart change its tone to even the main villain! And let’s get back to the thrills. What good is having six version of Spider-Man without foes that will make their screen time worthy? Without spoiling parts of the plot, Into The Spider-Verse, delivered on that aspect as well. The action sequences amped up with some cool beats and electrifying visuals increased the overall greatness of the film.
With that said, having the electricity, the fun, the originality, and the greatness of the plot- Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is easily the best movie that pays tribute to the iconic character. It is perfect the culmination of this comic book superhero’s rich and diverse history!
