Fast & Furious: Hobbs and Shaw Is A Nonstop Ride of Humor and Action

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Before we proceed with our review of Fast & Furious: Hobbs and Shaw, I am going to confess something, Bingers. I have never seen a movie in the franchise til now! Yes, Hobbs and Shaw is my gateway into these movies but hey I have a good reason for it! I have never been into loud, explosive, and testosterone-filled films, in which the Fast & Furious movies are very much known for. But here is the thing, I had a blast watching Hobbs and Shaw and even I surprised myself with this turnout! With that said, let’s get down to our review!

Save The Lady, Save The World

Alright, Hobbs and Shaw followed this film trope of going after a lady in order to save the world. Is that a bad thing? Well, not exactly. Given that I have no idea who these characters are nor know anything about their plot lines in the earlier movies, it helped that the film had some sort of introduction for them and not to spoil anything, started them on a clean slate. Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is living with his daughter in the States when he was contacted by an old friend to get on a mission. Meanwhile, Shaw (Jason Statham) was tricked into accepting a job. Apparently, their reluctance were right as they do not want to work with each other. But then again, did they have a choice?

Johnson and Statham were like two little boys who were forced by their teacher to play with each other in the playground. The difference in their characters made up for some hilarious team-up and the banters did actually work! It took me by surprise how Statham did not get left behind by Johnson’s natural humor and charisma. Behind the brute force and intense machismo, Hobbs and Shaw brought out the levity in these actors!

Cars, Bombs, and a Mechanical Idris Elba

Okay, Bingers. If the comedic Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham haven’t convinced you yet to see Fast & Furious: Hobbs and Shaw, well here are more reasons to do so! Based from what I saw on trailers and materials on TV and the internet, the franchise is filled with explosions and car chases! The latest movie lived up to that and delivered some more!

The car chase sequences here were nothing like I saw before and yes, they even topped some of the thrilling ones from the Mission Impossible movies! As if that’s not enough, Hobbs and Shaw gave me some more and became the gift that keeps on giving! Yep, I am talking about none other than Idris Elba. His presence alone is enough to be a formidable foe for the duo but enhance him with some tech then he is unstoppable and a terrifying one at that! What I loved about Elba’s presence in the movie is he was a multilayered villain. He is unstoppable in accomplishing a mission which makes him terrifying but at the same time, you can see a tinge of reluctance in his eyes!

For my first ride at the Fast & Furious franchise, I have to say that I picked the right car- Hobbs and Shaw. It did meet my expectations for some intense car and action sequences but surprised me with some masculine humor from Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Buckle up and get ready for a crazy ride because Fast & Furious: Hobbs and Shaw will go full throttle!
