AsiaPOP Comicon 2017

AsiaPOP Comicon 2017 Highlights

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Since I attended AsiaPOP Comicon last year, I knew then that it was going to be an annual thing for me. And why wouldn’t it be? It is a haven for every pop culture geek in the country!

Pop Culture Haven

AsiaPOP Comicon had everything- cosplays, anime, comic books, movies, celebrity guests, and everything that you can think of under pop culture. The event is on its third year now and it delivered an awesome experience to its attendees.

The event brings in big names from both Hollywood and Asian entertainment- proving itself to be one of the largest comic conventions in Asia. Among the headliners last year was Nicholas Hoult, Claire Holt, and Joe Dempsie. DC Comics surprised the fans this time with Superman from the series Supergirl, Tyler Hoechlin and Cyborg from Justice League’s Ray Fisher.

Netflix Spotlight

The cast of the much-beloved Netflix series Strangers Things raised the crowd’s energy! Joe Keery, Noah Schnapp, Dacre Montgomery, and Sadie Sink answered questions from fans during the Netflix spotlight. Some lucky fans even had the chance for a photo-op and/or meet-and-greet with the cast.

Speaking of Netflix, the streaming service debuted big in this year’s event by bringing the sets of some of their top-rated shows to life. From the streets of New York (Defenders), to Litchfield Penitentiary (Orange is the New Black), Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe (Riverdale), and Hawkins (Stranger Things), these recreated sets were a hit. Without a doubt, this became everybody’s favorite! Fans remained unfazed by the hour-long queue to experience this exhibition. Countless photo-ops rewarded the patient fans as they got to live their favorite shows.

Artists United

APCC bridged a great opportunity to budding and local artists. They had their works displayed for visitors to enjoy and buy. Cosplayers also had a field day filling SMX. I don’t see myself wearing costumes any time soon but I had a great time taking photos with them.

For the second year in a row, Marvel’s Hall M remains the highlight of my APCC experience. Led by CB Cebulski, he gave the 1000 lucky attendees a first-look into Marvel’s exclusive content including games, TV shows, and film! If last year, we had a 15-minute Doctor Strange sneak peek, we had The Punisher and Thor Ragnarok this time. Each preview received roars of applause from fans!

After this year’s success, there is no doubt that the event will continue on next year. And be there, I will.
