How To Be The Best You This Rainy Season

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The jury is in: summer is over, and the rainy season is finally in full swing. If you haven’t noticed all the torrential downpours over the past few weeks, weather bureau PAGASA actually declared the start of the rainy season last June 14. Now, while there are benefits to just curling up with a warm blanket and some tea and letting the rain wash your worries away, life still goes on. Just because you don’t have the motivation of a tropical vacation to get you through the next months doesn’t mean that you can’t make the most of your time. Here are some tips on how to be the best you even during monsoon season.

Build A Routine

The sun may not be out, and there might be a lot more stressors that come with monsoon rains, but that doesn’t mean you have to let it change the way you live. Start by building a routine that will give you structure for the wetter months of the year. Prepare ahead of time for your laundry days just in case your clothes take longer to dry, try not to stay cooped up in your house, and adjust for longer travel times due to inclement weather. All these and more can help you ensure smooth sailing despite the stormy weather.

Try to Get Some Sun

If you’ve noticed yourself feeling a little down over the past few weeks, you’re not alone. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a real condition, and can get worse with reduced exposure to sunlight. While that may be a tall order with typhoon after typhoon rolling in, even spending a few minutes walking outside during the daytime might be enough to get some UV rays in and adjust your circadian rhythms.

Keep Yourself Dry

With monsoon rains rolling in, keeping yourself dry may seem like a tall order, but about so much more than just physical comfort. The Department of Health (DOH) recently sent out a bulletin cautioning the public to be careful of common rainy season diseases, which can include diarrhea, malaria, dengue, or leptospirosis. Many of these, such as typhoid fever and cholera, are water-borne, so making sure that you’re dry and that your drinking water sources are clean and safe is of the utmost importance.

Eat Healthy

While eating healthy is something you should do all year-round, it’s especially important during the rainy season. Maintaining a healthy diet means that your body and immune system have enough nutrients to adequately protect you against sickness and disease. Close quarters in offices, schools, and public transport, coupled with the poor weather and water-borne diseases, mean that keeping yourself healthy during this part of the year is more important than ever.

Exercise Regularly

Keep your spirits up and your endorphins high by doing regular workouts during the rainy season, and you’ll be sure to come out of it a winner. If you aren’t sure where to start, Daydreaming in Paradise has a list of the 10 best gyms in the Philippines right now. The list includes information about gym rates, locations, the services and classes available, as well as ways to contact the gym of your choice. Don’t let rainy days (or Mondays) get you down, and start your road to the best you now.
