Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore during the exclusive press junket for Santa Clarita Diet 2 in Fairmont Makati

3 Reasons You Should Crave for Santa Clarita Diet 2

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In a once in a lifetime experience, I got the opportunity to represent PinoyExchange and talk to the cast of Santa Clarita Diet. Netflix brought Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant to the country to whet everybody’s appetite for seconds. I mean, the second season. As part of the perks, I had an early access to the whole upcoming season and let me share with you why you should be craving for more. Also, I’ll share with you more about my experience during the exclusive interview.

  1. The Curse
Picking up exactly where the first season left off, the Hammonds are still on the lookout for the cure that will stop Sheila’s deterioration. Fulfilling this, they stumbled upon a larger mystery- the thing that caused the ‘curse’. This plot is both exciting and hilarious! If anything else, this just made the series much crazier than it already is. Not only that, it also expanded and explained the mystery behind the curse.

  2. Steaks are at a higher stake
With Sheila being not the only undead in Santa Clarita, there is now a higher demand for fresh meat, human meat. Showrunner Victor Fresco played with the moral footing of the show this season with the Hammond’s selection for their next victim. The show took the route of the good old trolley problem and even tackled taking down Nazis. Wonder how that turned out? See for yourself.

I interviewed Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant in an exclusive roundtable interview at Fairmont.
  3. More FLESHED out characters
During my interview with them, I asked how much of themselves do they see in their characters. I had a great time listening to their answers. Olyphant said he does see Joel Hammond in himself more than he’d like to admit. Meanwhile, Barrymore admitted that she’s been told by her friends and kids that whenever she plays Sheila Hammond for the show, it’s the most her they have ever seen. Well, sans the part where she eats human.

It is easy to fall in love with the characters of Santa Clarita Diet because of how thorough they were written. Season 2 discovers more of their layers.

Before Santa Clarita Diet returns for its second season on March 23, Friday, rewatch the entire first season only on Netflix!
