Canon EOS 90D vs EOS M6: Team DLSR or Team Mirrorless?

Reading Time: 3 minutes

When it comes to cameras, which side are you on, Bingers? Are you #TeamDSLR or #TeamMirrorless? Personally, if you ask me, I’ll be standing at the center because I own both. I have a Canon 1100D, my first DSLR and I also have an M100, a mirrorless camera which I bought last year. My Canon 1100D was bought in 2006 when I was still in college and it is still perfectly working now. I got myself an M100 as a Christmas gift to myself and because I need a new equipment for blogging and vlogging. If you ask me, I’ll say that both have advantages and disadvantages of their own. But let’s take the divide a step further because recently, Canon introduced two new cameras that are mid-range powerhouses: EOS 90D and EOS M6 Mark II. We had our firsthand experience on both during the launch and we got the details to help you decide where to put your 13 month bonuses!

Meet the Seriously Fast EOS 90D

Whenever we say DSLR, we think of professional photography. Well, that is true because most professional photographers opt for these models. They are equipped with technology meant for the heavier and tougher jobs. Recently, however, mirrorless cameras are trying to adapt and do some tasks that DSLRs are doing. The truth is some things are meant for DSLRs alone. While they may be bulkier, they are truly more meant for intense jobs. Canon introduces EOS 90D that is promised to offer fast and comfortable shooting. Not only that, it also has an optical viewfinder, intuitive controls, and boasts fast and accurate auto-focusing features.

When I worked with my 1100D, the autofocus was impressive. Take note that was few years ago, and when I experienced 90D myself, I was impressed. The autofocus was much more impressive than I had expected and this is thanks in part to Canon’s unique high-speed, high-precision Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus technology. With EOS 90D, it should be easier to capture fast-moving subjects because of its 32.5 megapixel APS-C sensor! Shooting videos should also be a breeze with EOS 90D. Vloggers like I am and videographers are particular about our camera’s shooting capabilities and EOS 90D is a great contender. It can shoot 4k 30p/25p and 120p high frame rate! Now that’s some speed we are talking about. Again, this should be the perfect camera for professional photographers and videographers!

Meet the Versatile EOS M6 Mark II

So, let’s talk about mirrorless cameras. It’s what everybody is buying nowadays. It is cheap, light, and does the job right. I even bought myself one last year because I can easily bring it to the events that I attend to as a content creator. I used to bring my DSLR, a Canon EOS 1100D, but it was bulky and heavy. Whenever I bring it, I find it hard to move around the venue. But when I bought a mirrorless, things have been way easier and transferring files on the spot was quicker too because I can do it over WiFi, bluetooth, or NFC. And now, the question for us is, which mirrorless camera should you get? Well, here is an option for you guys. How about an EOS M6 Mark II?

It is the latest addition to Canon’s EOS M-series mirrorless lineup. This one has an enhanced continuous shooting speed, a faster ISO speed, and AF features that are perfect for the unexpected moments. EOS Mark 6 delivers a DSLR quality in a smaller body because of the DIGIC 8 image processor. It shoots images with its 32.5 megapixel CMOS sensor. Shooting RAW images will not be a challenge as well because of its 30fps continuous shooting, even in burst mode! During the launch, the model was promised to be light yet powerful.
